Despite a few showers in the morning Waitangi Day at Queen Elizabeth was an enjoyable occasion for hundreds of members of our Masterton community. We were treated to performances from Indian, Pacific Island, Scottish and Mā ori groups and were able to try delicious Māori, Samoan, Italian and Filipino food too. Wairarapa Parents Centre were handing out Neutrogena sunscreen and Huggies wipes as well as fundraising with our Kiddiekutter knives and Baby Hamper raffles. The Toy Library toys were a hit with the little kids who loved the roller coaster particularly and the big kids enjoyed the games we ran throughout the day. A big thank you to Masterton District Council and all the days sponsors for putting on such an entertaining event to celebrate 175 years since the signing of Te Tiriti O Waitangi. We are very fortunate to have so many people committed to promoting diversity and unity in our community.
He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!
What is the most important thing in the world?
It is people! It is people! It is people!
Children's Day at Masterton SPCA
On Sunday March 1, Wairarapa Parents Centre were present at another wonderful community event to mark International Children’s Day. Held at the SPCA and organised by CYFS the event attracted over 500 people on another scorching Wairarapa day. Fortunately we were on hand giving out Neutrogena sunscreen along with Huggies wipes for sticky fingers for those lucky people who in total consumed 500 sausages, 480 ice blocks and 300 fruit kebabs. We had a great spot for our stall in the shade where we could watch all the neat activities and stalls that were on offer that day.
It was a great opportunity to showcase what Wairarapa Parents Centre does with Karina taking a Storytime Yoga class (which now run regularly on Tuesdays at 10am) and Sarah giving the little ones a taste of Music and Movement (Mondays, 10am). Thanks again to the Masterton Toy Library for providing some toys for the younger children who were two small for the big bouncy castle and some of the other rides. Such a lovely family day out with lots of animals and helpful information on pet care from the friendly SPCA staff. We are all looking forward to doing it again next year!
